MTS Uzbekistan
In August 1991 under the initiative of the Ministry of Communications and due to support of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan “Uzdunrobita” company was founded for granting services of cellular communications. This was the first mobile operator not only in Uzbekistan, but in the Central Asia region.
In August 2004 “Uzdunrobita” became a part of international company “Mobile TeleSystems” (Russia). After the rebranding, which had been held in June 2006, the company grants its’ services under the renewed “MTS” brand.
“Uzdunrobita” company is the biggest mobile operator in Uzbekistan and grants its’ services in GSM 900 / 1800 standard. MTS-Uzbekistan network has the widest coverage in the Republic – it covers more than 90% of inhabited territory of Uzbekistan: the most of inhabited localities, key auto- and railway arterial roads.
In April 2007 the Agency of communications and information of the Republic of Uzbekistan granted to “Uzdunrobita” company, subsidiary of MTS company in Uzbekistan, the License for granting of communication services in UMTS standard of 3G network. On the second half of 2008 MTS is planning to launch the new network in Tashkent and other cities of the country.
